We were appointed by Glass & Mirror Solutions to provide a range of laminated glass panels for a balustrading project for a large domestic property in Durham.
This project presented unique timing challenges. The client requested a very quick turnaround due to a wedding at the property the following weekend. Our team excelled, even processing and delivering some units within 24 hours.
Toughened balustrading glass units delivered within 24 hours
SGP provided 32 panels of 21.5mm laminated glass, which were used to construct a seamless border around the raised outdoor space and outline the large outdoor staircase which leads down to the lower garden levels.
The flat glass panels were processed to exact measurements to fit perfectly around the existing paved area and the angled staircase edge. The client then attached the glass balustrade using minimalistic metal attachments.
Laminated glass was chosen for the structural glass units on the staircase and surrounding areas to ensure safety and longevity. Laminated units are treated with a special interlayer that helps keep the broken glass together until it can be repaired. This prevents injuries, as shards are less likely to be airborne.
The Outcomes
Overall, the glass balustrading provides a stunning focal point for the house and highlights the greenery and natural beauty in the garden space. Using glass in an outdoor landscaping project helps maximise the natural light in the garden, which is ideal for entertaining in spring and summer.
