Specialist Glass Products supplied Origin with multiple 10mm toughened glass units; however, intricacy was added to the design with a requirement for detailed sandblasting. The customer expressed the desire for a cross on the gate panel. Thanks to our flexibility and experience, we executed the intricate design by taping the shape of the cross onto the gate panel and sandblasting it, resulting in a visually striking yet subtle design.
The Outcome
Specialist Glass products collaborated closely with Origin Architectural to ensure the glass panels seamlessly accommodated the gold-plated handrail and gate. Our experienced and skilled team used templates provided by the customer and translated them into precise drawings, ensuring a flawless fit upon installation. The precision in producing the glass panels, including the uniquely shaped ones descending the altar ramp, exemplifies our commitment to bespoke glass solutions.
Recognising the public nature of the space, Origin Architectural advised the use of safety pins supplied with their clamps as an additional safety measure. This meant that we needed to ensure all glass panels were equipped with holes in each corner through which safety pins could be inserted to prevent unintended glass slippage and enhance safety in a high-traffic public setting.
The balustrading was tested to withstand forces up to 0.74kN and to ensure they were fully compliant with building regulations. Origin Architectural was then able to provide its customer with a test certificate, which was passed on to the building inspector.
The combination of meticulous design, precision manufacturing, and rigorous testing between the SGP and Origin team resulted in a glass balustrading that not only met but exceeded the customer’s expectations.
