Huddersfield based, Specialist Glass Products, has supplied the glass for the striking Hendrick’s Gin Palace in the seaside village of Girvan, which lies in Ayrshire, south-west Scotland.
Hendrick’s Gin Palace is a distillery owned by William Grant & Sons, a UK-based spirits company whose brands include Drambuie, Sailor Jerry and Glenfiddich. The facility is the company’s second distillery in the region and is estimated to have cost £13m. It was designed by Michael Laird Architects.
The Hendrick’s Gin Palace is reminiscent of Kew Gardens. It features a walled garden that leads to a glass, Victorian-inspired greenhouse, which is positioned between two botanical hot houses that will be used to grow a range of botanicals and flora from around the world.
Structural glazing and architectural metalwork specialist Gray & Dick Ltd appointed Specialist Glass Products to supply them with 366 finished curved glass panels spanning 170m2 and weighing 5,00kg. The specialist glass was heat soaked toughened and laminated to provide a safe, robust material.
Andrew Taylor, Managing Director of Specialist Glass Products added, “We are delighted that Gray & Dick entrusted Specialist Glass Products with their bespoke glass needs to carry out this exciting project. We are extremely pleased with the result – the distillery looks outstanding and we look forward to paying a visit.”
